Agoe Assiyeye Group – Sponsorship Goal £3,929.00
The Agoe Assiyeye group is an all female community group with 23 members, ranging from 32 to 72 years old. Even though there is a 40 year age gap, between the youngest and the oldest, they all share the same ambition – to improve the living conditions of their family and provide a better opportunity for their children.
The ladies of the Agoe Assiyeye group all have children, some are widowed, and support the family on their own by running small businesses.
Ama Atcholi is 72, is married to a retired officer and together they have three grown-up children aged 40, 37 and 33. She still works 105 hours a week selling charcoal. She has applied for a loan which she would use to buy more stock. Her long-term ambition is to be able to buy a plot of land on which to build a house for her children.
Foussena Aboulaya is a 55 year old widow with six children aged between 24 and 12 to support. Two of the children are still at school and Foussena wants them to finish their education. To provide for her family she works 84 hours a week, making and selling porridge and plastic plates. She would use the loan she has requested to buy the ingredients – corn, sugar, beans and oil.
