Meet Adjo Adovon

Adjo Adovon has seen her life change with the introduction of the Adokpo Wazam cookstove. From healthier cooking conditions to more time for her agricultural work.

In the rural communities of Togo, traditional three-stone fireplaces are a common way to cook meals. While these open fires are simple, they come at a significant cost—requiring large amounts of wood and producing heavy smoke that causes serious health issues. For women like Adjo Adovon, this daily burden was not only harmful but also time-consuming.

“The smoke got in our eyes when we were cooking and in the evening and when we wanted to sleep our eyes were often sore” Adjo shares.

In 2023, Deki introduced the Adokpo Wazam cookstove to Adjo’s community. These locally produced, fuel-efficient stoves use less than half the wood of traditional methods and produce minimal smoke, creating a cleaner and safer cooking experience.

“We used to go and collect wood 3 to 4 times a week, now we only go to collect wood once a week, with the time saved we take more care of our agricultural activities which increases the yield of agricultural production”

Thanks to the time she’s saved, Adjo has been able to dedicate more attention to her farming, resulting in better harvests and more income for her family. What’s more, the introduction of the cookstove has inspired a ripple effect in her community.

“I will tell my friends to buy an Adokpo Wazam cookstove for their homes. Thanks to the project many other women have bought the Adokpo Wazam home after talking to their neighbours.”

Deki’s cookstove project is about more than just providing a product—it’s about creating lasting impact. By working with local partners, Deki has established a workshop in Togo to produce these stoves, generating jobs and reinvesting profits back into the community. Each stove represents a step toward a healthier, more sustainable future for families like Adjo’s

Every cookstove makes a difference. By supporting Deki, you’re helping to empower women, protect the environment, and create lasting change. Together, we can ensure more families have access to safe and sustainable cooking solutions.
